The Richmond Lowlands is an area of Sydney. It is located in the picturesque Hawkesbury Region south-west of Freemans Reach. It’s a rural area with cattle, horses and small farms. It’s quite amazing that this area is located about one hour from the city centre. When you get there you really feel like you are out in the country, it’s so peaceful, and a place you can literally spend hours photographing.

It is really popular with photographers in Autumn and Winter, as you get lovely sunrises and beautiful fog in the region.

On the morning I went to Richmond I was hoping to get a lot of fog in the area and it didn’t disappoint. I had discovered this tree in one of the paddocks that made a strong composition, with the fence acting as a leading line straight towards the tree and the rising sun in the distance.

When there is fog and a rising sun, as long as the fog isn’t too thick you can see the entire disc of the sun which is absolutely stunning. I was also lucky that at the exact moment I took this photo, a little bird came and sat on the fence.
