Diamond Bay

Diamond Bay Reserve in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs is located in the suburb of Vaucluse. I actually grew up here and lived for a few years in an apartment block, which can be seen on the far left hand side of this image. When I was growing up here it was so beautiful and I loved the reserve. We used to play in the park area, ride our bikes around the quiet streets, while enjoying the magnificent view.

It’s still largely a hidden gem of Sydney, but it’s become more popular in recent years because of Instagram, and now a lot of tour buses bring tourists here. But you can still get the place pretty much to yourself if you decide to visit.

You often see rock climbers and fishermen here on weekends, and it’s an excellent spot for whale watching in season. There is a little pocket of rainforest, known as Rosa Gully, and it appears just before you leave Diamond Bay. This is a favourite rock climbing spot suitable for experienced climbers only.

When I decided to photograph Diamond Bay, I was blessed with a  gorgeous sunrise. I was the only photographer there that morning to see the gorgeous cliff face light up by the colourful sunrise. What a magical moment.
